Q&A with Jermiside

1. How did you come up with your name?

When I used to write graffiti in high school I used to go by the name Jermz and sometimes I’d just write random nonsense variations of it. One time I did a sketch in my blackbook that said “Jermosyd” and showed to a homeboy of mine and I remember him asking if that was my new rap name, it kinda stuck from there.

2. How would you describe yourself, as a person and as an emcee?

As a person, I’m a quiet kinda dude, I like to lay low in the cut. As a MC I can be different things at different times but I think most people know me for the wordplay and rhyme schemes, I would say introspective topics is my thing.

3. Who’s your favorite emcee at the moment?

I’m diggin’ Jay Electronica the most right now, dude is real vivid with the rhymes.

4. Can you tell us a bit about the Lessondary crew?

The Lessondary, in a nutshell, is a crew of creatives (rhymers, designers etc…) that consists of Tanya Morgan, Che Grand, Spec Boogie, Elucid, A Brother Named George, Brickbeats, Aeon, Jamie Cooley, Heinz to name a few.

5. How was the Red Giants album received?

Who else was involved in that project? It was recieved pretty well by the few that heard it lol. Its funny because from time to time random people still hit me up like “yo, i just heard that Red Giants album and ya’ll are nuts” and its like 3 years since then lol. Its a really, really slow burn apparently. Me and Brick Beats were really the sole controllers on that project. The only other person involved was Von Pea on the track “Illustrious Brother’s”. We’re gonna take a more inclusive approach with the upcoming album as far as outside involvement just for a different feel.

6. You’re a man of many talents. Which of your creative outlets gives you the most satisfaction?

Honestly I enjoy them all equally, I’m probably a better rapper than anything since that was the thing I kind of attached to early and really ran with. In the next couple years after I get a couple of these projects off my chest I plan on focusing more on production & DJing.

7. What are your interests other than music and art?

Nothing lol. Nah, just typical shit really, watching movies, lounging around with the wife.

8. What are you working on at the moment?

“Die Jerm Die” with DJ Low Key which may be out by the time this intereview comes out, I did a bunch of verses and songs for Haji Haj of Dumhi on his project “Indian Summer”, I have an album with a Irish producer named Danny Diggs which is called “Middle Classic” and a new Red Giants album on the way, not to mention the Chain Reaction EP we just dropped in June.

9. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Still being creative, chilling with the fam.

10. Where can your fans catch you performing?

There may be a string of shows to promote Haji Haj’s “Indian Summer” in the works, aside from that I’m kinda waiting for the next full album to get finished then after that me and Danny Diggs are gonna start working some appearances out.
